During my latest interview with Jack Schafer, former FBI Agent, Professor, and Prolific Author of "The Like Switch" and "The Truth Detector," I experienced first-hand the sheer power of elicitation techniques. 🤯
We were discussing one of Dr. Schafer's favorite techniques "the presumptive statement" which plays on the profound human need to correct misinformation. I was aware of it, we talked about it in detail, and yet… I completely fell for it! 🙈
Here’s how it went down:
Dr. Schafer casually said, “You said you were from Saskatchewan, right?
Without even thinking, I immediately corrected him, saying, “From Alberta, but very close.”
And just like that, I walked right into it!
Even though I knew the technique, I still felt the "automatic" pull to correct the statement. It was a mind-blowing experience and one of the most impactful moments I’ve had in over 240 episodes of The Business Development Podcast.
